Flood Claims Seven In Jigawa, Destroyed 2000 Houses, Farmlands – LG Chairman.



At least seven people have died and over 2000 houses, farmlands destroyed by the recent flood disaster in Ringim local government area of Jigawa state.

The chairman of the local council, Abdurrashid Illah-Ringim stated this to newsmen in his office after he paid a sympathy visit to the affected communities.

According to him, this year’s flood was exceptional in that the affected communities had never witnessed such.

He disclosed that more than one hundred hectares of farmland were submerged by the flood, adding that over 45 thousand farmers and families were rendered homeless.

“Some of the deceased died in their homes while others died on their way looking for shelter,” the chairman said.

According to media reports, some of the properties destroyed by the flood included schools, hospitals, marketplaces, mosques as well as farm produce worth millions of naira.

Mr Illah-Ringim, therefore, urged the State and National Emergency Management Agencies to come to the rescue of the victims.

One of the victims, Inusa Rabiu of Dabi town, urged the government to come to their aid and provide lasting solution to the lingering problem.
