The first military Governor of Lagos State, Mobolaji Johnson, is dead. He was aged 83. The son of the late army brigadier, Deji, who confirmed the death, said he fought a long battle. He said, “I am afraid to break the news to you that we have lost our dad. He fought a long and hard battle; unfortunately he could not make it. He passed on this afternoon (Wednesday). The late Johnson served under a former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, and was appointed the military governor of Lagos State by Ironsi’s successor, Gen. Yakubu Gowon. He was governor from May 28, 1967 to July 1975.

Nigerian singer, Wizkid, has been nominated for the 2019 Soul Train Music Awards scheduled to hold on Nov. 17  in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wizkid is nominated in the Best Collaboration and the Songwriters’ Award categories, all for his collaborative song with Beyoncé, “Brown Skin Girl.” This nomination makes it the third time Wizkid has made the nominees’ list for the prestigious award. He was nominated for Best Dance Performance in 2017 for his song ‘Come Closer’ and in 2016 for the Rhythm and Bars category,  for his song ‘One Dance. The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual award that honours the best in black music and entertainment. John Witherspoon, veteran actor and comedian, best known for starring as Mr. Jones in the "Friday" movie series, and voicing #Gramps on #TheBoondocks, died on October 29, 2019. He was 77. Witherspoon was survived by his wife, Angela Robinson-Witherspoon, whom he married in 1988, and their two children, Alexander Witherspoon and John David Witherspoon. In response to complaints by Kanye West and others, Instagram has banned sexually suggestive emojis, including the eggplant and the peach, which resemble parts of the human anatomy. The eggplant emoji has been used to suggest an erect phallus, while the peach resembles a woman's buttocks. The water drops resemble ejaculation. Instagram bosses say users on their platforms can no longer use those emojis - even to cover up genitals on photos. The emojis can still be used in captions, but not to convey sexually suggestive content or ask for anything sexual. The changes will cut down on sex workers plying their trade on the social media platform. The new changes have been implemented in Facebook's Sexual Solicitation Community Standards which took effect on October 24. Sex workers will no longer be allowed to advertise their services on Instagram or Facebook.

An Oklahoma man and his wife were arrested after he fatally shot his daughter's boyfriend and his cousin because they were Black. Manuel Quezada, 47, and his wife Angelica Quezada were arrested on Tuesday night after the shooting outside their home in Owasso, Oklahoma. Police believe Mr. Quezada fatally shot Albert Thomas, 20, and Albert's cousin Dejon Ross, 21, because his daughter was dating Albert, pictured below left. One victim was shot inside a car while the other man was shot dead in the driveway. Quezada had a gun visible in his back pocket when sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene. EFCC has arrested a Lebanese, Hamza Koudeih, alleged to be a collaborator of Ismaila Mustapha aka Mompha, who was recently arrested by the commission. Head of the EFCC’s Lagos zonal office, Mr. Mohammed Rabo, said Koudeih was arrested alongside two others whose nationalities are yet to be established following their alleged involvement in internet fraud and money laundering. “Hamza Koudeih was arrested over the weekend at the Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos, where he occupied one of the luxury suites. It cost about $5 million annually as rent to maintain the luxury suit. Sadako Ogata, a former top United Nations official who was the first and only woman to serve as the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and became known for donning a helmet and flak jacket on trips into the field, has died, aged 92. Japanese government officials said Ogata had died on Oct. 22 but they only announced her death on Tuesday. They did not give the cause of her death. A man identified as  Isiaka Ayobami has allegedly killed his one year old daughter by smashing her head on the ground in Isheri Area of Lagos. This incident took place on Saturday 26th October, 2019 around 6:00pm. According to reports, the man had  forcefully  seized his daughter from the mother and hit her on the ground, shattering her head. A 23 year old woman, Deborah Nwachukwu , has been arrested by the police in Ikeja, Lagos after she allegedly escaped with her estranged lover's SUV and other valuables.The incident occurred on the 21st of October, 2019 at MKO street, off Toyin Street, Ikeja . Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, the last surviving wife to late Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, is dead A granddaughter to the late prime minister, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, confirmed the death of Hajiya Jummai in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday night. Hajara disclosed that the deceased, aged 85, died at 4pm on Sunday in Lagos, following cardiac arrest, leaving behind eight children and many grandchildren. She said that the deceased had returned from a two weeks medical trip in India, but decided to while away time in Lagos with her daughter, when the death occurred. A 47-year-old youth social worker for Wood’s Homes was fatally stabbed early Friday morning while she was on the job caring for an 18-year-old client in Calgary. . Deborah Onwu was identified by police as the victim at around 2:45 a.m on Friday and the suspect is in custody and was arrested around 5 a.m...Onwu was a youth social worker with Calgary’s Wood’s Homes, a children’s mental health centre that provides treatment to children, youth and families. A Federal High Court in Lagos State, Nigeria, has fixed November 5 to hear a suit by a musician, Olumuyiwa Danladi a.k.a Danny Young, against hip hop star Tiwatope (Tiwa) Savage, for alleged copyright infringement. Young is seeking N205 Million in damages against Tiwa Savage for allegedly, using his musical work titled ‘ONE’ unlawfully. The suit, labeled ‘FHC/L/CS/ 230/2019 ’ is pending before Justice Mohammed Liman. Joined as second defendant in the suit is Savage’s former record label Mavin Records. The ‘Omo Lepa’ hit singer filed the suit through his counsel, Mr Justin Ige, of Creative Legal, claiming the sum of N200 million in damages against the defendants for copyright violation. The plaintiff filed the suit since February 13.

A three year-old toddler snatched by a stranger from a birthday party at her house has been found murdered and dumped in a landfill site, police say. Kamille ‘Cupcake’ McKinney’s remains were found earlier this week, with Patrick Smith from Birmingham Police Department in Alabama announcing the grim find Tuesday night. Smith said that police are obtaining murder and kidnapping warrants for two people of interest, who he identified as 39-year-old Patrick Stallworth and his 29-year-old girlfriend, Derick Irisha Brown. At the news conference, Smith said: ‘I wish I had all of you gathered here with good news. I wish I could share a high five or some other celebratory salutation, but I cannot.’ McKinney is believed to have been abducted on October 12 by two strangers who lured her away from a birthday party in Birmingham, Alabama.

Unknown Gunmen have kidnapped a judge of the Federal High Court, Akure, Justice Abdul Dogo. Justice Dogo was abducted on Tuesday while he was returning to Akure from Abuja. The kidnappers have reportedly made a demand for N50 million to free the judge. A Congolese woman has tragically died due to jealousy from a friend, over a trivial matter of a job promotion. According to reports, the lady was poisoned, allegedly, by her own best friend. The two were up for a promotion at work and the lady won. Unhappy, her friend decided to ‘take her out’. She reportedly poisoned a meal, gave it to the said woman  to eat and consequently, she died soon after eating it.
