Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey dominated the news last night at Summerslam, as both quickly won new titles in Brooklyn, New York.
In the main event, Reigns swiftly dispatched of Brock Lesnar to finally become Universal Champion again, while Rousey obliterated Alexa Bliss to secure the Raw Women’s Championship.
With Brock Lesnar set to return to the UFC, the time was right for Reigns to defeat him after many different attempts over the years, and the brief main event lived up to the hype. Before the match, Money In The Bank holder Braun Strowman appeared at ringside, and seemingly suggested he would be challenging, and possibly cashing in his briefcase against the winner of the bout.
In response, Lesnar attacked Strowman with chairshots and F5s, before a distracted Lesnar was speared by Reigns, and a new champion was born.
It’s telling that the victory for Reigns did not come 100% clean, and would indicate that we haven’t seen the last of Brock Lesnar in WWE.
One former MMA star who is sticking around in WWE is Ronda Rousey, who became the second UFC Champion to claim WWE honors when she submitted Alexa Bliss in New York.
Rousey, flanked at ringside by Natalya who appeared just a week after the death of her father Jim Neidhart, dominated the entire match, before celebrating with The Bella Twins, Natalya and husband Travis Browne.
