Scott Wilson, the actor who played Hershel Greene, passed away at the age of 76.
Wilson played Georgia farm owner Hershel Greene in the post-apocalyptic zombie show from 2011 to 2014.
The veteran actor died on Saturday after suffering from leukaemia, according to celebrity news site PEOPLE.
AMC has issued a statement in the wake of his passing, echoing sentiments many Walking Dead actors have also made on social media:
"Scott will always be remembered as a great actor and we all feel fortunate to have known him as an even better person. The character he embodied on The Walking Dead, Hershel, lived at the emotional core of the show," said AMC. "Like Scott in our lives, Hershel was a character whose actions continue to inform our character’s choices to this day. Our hearts go out to his wife, his family, friends and to the millions of fans who loved him. Scott will be missed."
While Wilson was best known for his role as Hershel, which he played for seasons 2, 3 and 4, he was a veteran actor who also did amazing work in Judge Dredd, In Cold Blood and The Right Stuff, among other credits.
It’s a big loss both for The Walking Deadcommunity, and the industry at large.
