Critics are pouncing on starlet Scarlett Johansson for slamming accused Hollywood perv James Franco while giving a pass to her three-time boss — and alleged child molester — Woody Allen.
Johansson lashed out at Franco — who is accused by five women of untoward behavior — during a Women’s March speech in LA Saturday.
“How could a person publicly stand by an organization that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?” Johansson raged as a publicist later confirmed she was referring to Franco.
“By the way, I want my pin back,” she added, a clear reference to the “Time’s Up” pin Franco wore at the Golden Globes last week, which inspired the accusers to come forward.
But social media users Sunday noted that the “Avengers” star, who has had roles in Allen flicks “Match Point,” “Scoop” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” defended the 82-year-old director in 2014 after his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow daughter accused him of molesting her when she was seven.
Hastening to the aid of her movie-making pal Allen, Johansson told the Guardian that people should withhold their judgement. “It’s not like this is somebody that’s been prosecuted and found guilty of something, and you can then go, ‘I don’t support this lifestyle or whatever.’ I mean, it’s all guesswork,” she said at the time.
That set of female social media users.
“Scarlett Johansson called out James Franco but how many times did she work with Woody Allen ??? When it’s about money and career, the times up movement disappears very quickly I guess,” wrote Twitter user @chrissydelray.
The editor of Vice Media’s female-focused channel Broadly, Zing Tsjeng, tweeted: “Yes, this is the same Scarlett Johansson who starred in three Woody Allen films and said of the accusations against him: “It’s all guesswork.”
Farrow’s brother Ronan — who is credited with helping spark the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements against sex harassment after his bombshell interview with women accusing movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of sex assault — has sided with her.
