It was all over the news that Rey Mysterio would relinquish his United States Championship on WWE RAW yesterday night to Samoa Joe. That’s exactly what happened.
Mysterio came out with his arm in a sling. “I’m gonna lay it out straight,” said Mysteiro.
“I’ve been in WWE a long time. This is in my blood and it’s been in my family’s blood as well. It’s something I now get to share with my son, Dominic, because he’s training to do what I do. I have complete trust that he’ll carve a path of his own, but tonight I have to make sure I set the right example and do the right thing. As a man and as a champion.”
Mysterio was about to continue but then was interrupted by Samoa Joe, who said he heard the word “champion” and thought it was his cue to come out. “I do have one addendum to your little speech and that’s let not ruin this pure and honorable moment by telling these people a lie. You’re not relinquishing because you’re injured because you never beat me. My shoulders never touched the mat, Rey!”
Mysterio said he wasn’t here to fool anyone and that this isn’t what he wanted. “I’ve won championships my entire career,” said the luchador. “Through pain and through injuries, so if I was man enough to do that then I can do what I came here to do tonight. So, give me a moment. Due to my current shoulder injury at Money in the Bank, I’m here to relinquish my United States Championship to Samoa Joe.”
He then laid the belt on the ground and told Joe to pick it up before saying that he’d be back. Before he could leave, Joe sunk in a chokehold and attacked the already injured Mysterio.
