Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman Makes History As Africa’s First UFC Champion

Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman has become the first African UFC champion after comprehensively beating American Tyron Woodley at UFC 235.

Usman claimed the welterweight title in a dominant decision, outscoring the three-time defending champion 50-44, 50-44 and 50-45 on the judge’s scorecards.

Originally from Nigeria and now fighting out of South Florida, Usman dominated from beginning till the end to become the first African-born champion in the UFC.

He took Woodley down in the first round and, after Woodley managed to recover, hit him with knees and punches in the clinch.

His best round of the fight was the fourth when he hurt Woodley with uppercuts near the fence and came close to finishing him off.

The victory improved Usman’s UFC record to 10-0 while Woodley suffered his first loss since 2014.

Usman now owns a 14-fight win streak and a career record of 14-1. He’s yet to lose in the UFC. “I want you to remember this day forever. Daddy did it,” Usman told his daughter after the match.

He also said, “I’ll be honest, I might not be the best striker or best wrestler in the world. But when it comes to mixing this s— up, I’m the best f—ing welterweight on the planet right now”.

Iranian women's football team goalkeeper, Zohreh Koudaei, has been accused of being a man by the Jordan Football Association after she saved two penalties for a crucial win against Jordan.  As a result of these saves in a penalty shoot out which ended 4-2, Iran earned a place at the Women’s Asian Cup for the first time in the country’s history. The cup will take place in India in 2022.  Jordan FA is now asking for a gender verification check. Lol.
