Conor McGregor Retires From MMA.

Irish UFC firebrand Conor McGregor on Tuesday announced his retirement from mixed martial arts – for the second time in his career.

The 30-year-old, whose most recent UFC was his high-profile defeat against Khabib Nurmagomedov in October, took to Twitter to reveal the news on Tuesday .

McGregor's fighting career has slowed in recent years: prior to the Khabib bout, his most recent UFC fight was in 2016.

The Irishman took to the boxing ring against undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather in June 2017 – a convincing loss for McGregor that nonetheless earned him about $100m US dollars.

The former featherweight and lightweight UFC champion – the only fighter to hold two titles simultaneously – has become embroiled in a series of personal controversies in the United States in recent months.

Last week he was arrested in Miami after allegedly knocking a fan's phone out of their hand and stomping on it, while last year McGregor was filmed attacking Khabib's team bus in New York and was subsequently sentenced to community service and anger management counselling.

McGregor was due to fight in the UFC again in July and had been speaking positively about his desire to return, a commitment which now appears in doubt.
