A Lebanese engineer working with a construction firm in Kano State, Mr. Sagir Ahmed, has been abducted by gunmen in Kano.
His Nigerian driver, Alphonsus, was shot dead in the attack, while another occupant of the vehicle sustained injuries, witnesses said.
Witnesses told Daily Sun that the gunmen arrived at the scene in a Golf vehicle at about 7:20am, when the traffic was very light, and attacked their victims, who were driving in Hilux marked RBC 597 XA
“The gunmen immediately fled with their target, the Lebanese, while the injured Nigerians were left in a poll of blood,” a witness said.
Confirming the incident, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, told Daily Sun that the hoodlums shot at one of the victims, Alphonsus, adding that another occupant of the vehicle, Abdullahi Mohammed, sustained bullet wounds.
He explained that the victims were immediately rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention, but, while Alphonsus was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital, Abdullahi was admitted and was receiving treatment as at press time.
According to Haruna, the police have swung into action, diligently combing the scene and the surrounding areas for possible rescue and arrest.
He added that the Kano State Police Command has also extended its dragnet across the state, even as he pledged that the police would do everything possible to rescue the abducted Lebanese and bring the perpetrators to book.
