WWE wrestler Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs, won a Republican primary race Tuesday in Tennessee, becoming the GOP nominee for the next mayor of Knox County.
Jacobs, who edged Brad Anders by just 17 votes, will battle Democrat Linda Haney in the general election Aug. 2. Jacobs' win is secured but won't be official for a few days due to the slim margin of victory and several provisional ballots to be counted.
"Thanks to everyone who helped win this historic victory!!" Jacobs tweeted on Wednesday. "The people who cast a ballot for me, my great team, my wonderful volunteers. Looking forward to VICTORY in the general election!"
Jacobs, who works as an insurance agent in addition to his wrestling career, is a libertarian. He ran his campaign on low taxes, improved infrastructure and limited government.
As the wrestler Kane, Jacobs' WWE bio page describes him as "a monstrous abomination that seems to have been extracted directly from your childhood nightmares."
