Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero is out of the World Cup after suffering a knee injury, the country’s football federation (AFA) said in a statement on their website on Tuesday.
The AFA said that a decision on a replacement would be taken in the coming days.
The Manchester United keeper was in line to be first choice for Argentina but that role could now go to River Plate’s Franco Armani.
Chelsea’s former Manchester City keeper Willy Caballero is also in the 23-man squad.
Argentina have been drawn in Group D with Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria.
