There was a major surprise at Sunday’s Royal Rumble, when former UFC champion Ronda Rousey came out and later announced she signed a full-time contract with the WWE.
Rousey – who’s among the most popular and well-known athletes across the world – promises to be a great addition to the women’s roster. The Olympic medalist and former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion has made a major transition from the octagon to the squared circle – and is poised to enjoy the same success that Brock Lesnar has.
But Rousey isn’t the only former UFC star that’s been rumoured to join Lesnar in coming over to the WWE. Conor McGregor – the biggest star in Dana White’s company – has been rumoured to eventually come over as well. McGregor also has nothing but good things to say about Rousey leaving the UFC to join the WWE, per eWrestlingNews, com:
“I’m delighted for her, absolutely over the moon for her! She looked like she really enjoyed herself at the event and I was very, very happy to see her.
She’s a pioneer for the game. She’s came through it all and faced big wins and big, big losses and she came through it and it’s great to see her represent herself and mixed martial arts and have fun in the WWE. I know she’s been a big fan of it all through her life, so it’s great to see that.”
Rousey has been a life-long WWE fan, and had teased about joining the company for a few years. A fan of ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, Rousey adopted his nick name and donned his iconic jacket when she appeared at the Royal Rumble. Really, it was only a matter of time until she came to the WWE.
Though many wrestling fans are hoping to see McGregor join the WWE, Triple H shut down any hope back in November, during an interview with Good Morning Britain.
“Conor McGregor has said a lot of stuff about WWE in the past. I don’t have a problem with him, because he said I was the don, which is great,” said The Game. “He said a lot of stuff about our talent in the past. (If) Conor McGregor comes in, it’s not going to be an easy go.”
