The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger State, on Tuesday, presented 10 wheelchairs to 10 physically challenged persons in the State. The State’s NYSC Coordinator, Theresa Arokoyo, presented the wheelchairs to the beneficiaries selected from some of the local governments at the NYSC Secretariat in Minna. Mrs. Arokoyo said that the scheme gave out four wheelchairs in 2017, and that the gesture was part of their corporate social responsibility to such persons. She said the donation was in conjunction with an NGO, Grace Project International, under its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD). “This is indeed a direct reflection of the objectives of the NYSC scheme that addresses the most felt needs of host communities. “This is achieved through its Community Development Service Initiative with relevant developmental partners like the Grace Projects International. “It is our sincere hope, that these wheelchairs will ease the daily endeavours of the beneficiar

The United States government has imposed new sanctions on the terror group, Boko Haram, and its factional leader, Mus’ab al-Barnawi. The new sanctions by the U.S. Treasury Department targets the Islamic State and its affiliate networks around the world. The U.S. department added Boko Haram, also known as ISIS-West Africa, to the sanction list for global terrorism. Mr. al-Barnawi and Mahad Moalim from Somalia and seven organisations in Africa and Asia, linked to Islamic state (ISIS), were added to the list. Mr. al-Barnawi was the spokesperson for Boko Haram before the group pledged allegiance to ISIL. The Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said the additions include ISIS-Philippines, ISIS-Bangladesh, ISIS-West Africa, ISIS-Egypt, ISIS-Somalia, Jund al-Khilafah-Tunisia, also known as ISIS-Tunisia, and the Philippines-based Maute Group, also known as Islamic State of Lanao. The 37-year-old mother of three unveiled one of two covers she shot for the March issue of Vogue India on Monday, sparking negative comments from readers who felt that a South Asian talent should have been featured instead. Kardashian is of Armenian descent. This isn’t the first time the fashion magazine has faced backlash over choosing the famous family. Back in May 2017, Vogue India received similar criticism when they chose Kardashian’s younger sister Kendall Jenner to grace their cover. Actress Heather Locklear was arrested at her Thousand Oaks home on Sunday night on suspicion of domestic battery and assault of a peace officer, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to Locklear's house at 9:42 p.m. in response to a domestic incident involving the 56-year-old actress' boyfriend, said sheriff's Sgt. Eric Buschow. "She was extremely hostile and uncooperative and at one point became combative with the deputies" and impeded their investigation, Buschow said. Additional deputies were called to the scene after Locklear started trying to fight with the law enforcement officers, he said. She physically resisted arrest, and deputies struggled to get her into a patrol car. Locklear was arrested at 10:27 p.m. on suspicion of one felony count of domestic battery. British actress Emma Chambers has died of natural causes. She was 53 years. Chambers was best known for her role as Alice Tinker in television series “The Vicar of Dibley” which aired from 1994 to 2007, for which she won the British Comedy Award for Best TV Actress. She also starred in the hit 1999 film “Notting Hill” and 1994 television miniseries “Martin Chuzzlewit.” Chambers’ agent John Grant confirmed that the actress passed away on Feb. 21 and said that she will be “greatly missed”. “Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work. She brought laughter and joy to many” he added. According to her IMDb page, she was born in Dorncaster, England and trained at the Webber Douglass Academy of Dramatic Art. Bollywood legendary actress,Sridevi Kapoor has died after a heart attack, her family says. She was 54. The beautiful actress simply known as Sridevi, passed away in Dubai, where she was attending a family wedding. From the age of four, she had worked in films in the Tamil, Telugu, Malaylam, Kannada and Hindi languages. She was considered one of the very few Indian female superstars capable of huge box office success without the support of a male hero. According to media reports, Sridevi's husband, Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi, were with her when she died. She debuted as a lead actress in a Bollywood film in 1978, soon becoming one of India's biggest film iconic stars. Nigerian-British singer, Sade Adu, has recorded a new original song for the upcoming American film, ‘A Wrinkle in Time’, her first in seven years. A Wrinkle in Time is an upcoming American science fantasy adventure film directed by Ava DuVernay from a screenplay by Jennifer Lee, and based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle. Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has appointed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to chair the newly inaugurated Kano Investment Advisory Committee. Two teen girls have an American Airlines customer service agent to thank for protecting them from a seriously scary scenario in the summer of 2017. According to a statement from American Airlines, Sacramento, Calif.-based airline employee Denice Miracle grew suspicious as she began checking in the two unnamed girls — aged 15 and 17 — for a flight to New York City. Though the girls had first-class tickets, neither had identification, and the credit card that had been used to book the tickets was in another person’s name — and flagged as fraudulent. The fact that the teens were traveling with one-way tickets without an adult also rang alarm bells for Miracle. Drawing on the airline’s Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct training to recognize signs of human trafficking, Miracle refused to check the teens in. The teen arrested in connection to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., has been identified by authorities as Nikolas Cruz. Cruz, a 19-year-old former student, was expelled from the school last year for disciplinary reasons Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters although he could not provide details as to why. According to a former schoolmate ,Victoria Olvera ,Cruz was expelled last school year after a fight with his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. She said Cruz had been abusive to his girlfriend. A motive in the shooting remains unclear, but students who encountered Cruz said he talked a lot about having fun with firearms, so much so that some joked that if anyone were to attack the school, it would probably be him.
