The Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Niger State Government House was on Tuesday gutted by fire resulting from an electrical fault, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The office was under renovation when the fire started about 12.30pm, and it took more than 15 minutes before firefighters arrived to put it out.
NAN reports that Government House workers were seen running for dear life before firefighters arrived in three fire fighting trucks.
NAN reports that office equipment, valuables and sensitive documents were destroyed.
NAN observed that there was no fire fighting truck at Government House.
The Deputy Controller, Niger State Fire Service, Salihu Bello, who spoke to reporters at the scene of the fire, said their quick intervention helped in reducing the damage.
Bello said the fire fighting trucks were brought from the various fire service stations in Minna.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mrs Mary Berje, said in a statement the fire fighting trucks at Government House were taken out for routine maintenance.
