Two new world champions were crowned at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view at Sam’s Town Live Friday night.
The undefeated RUSH defeated Matt Taven to become the first Mexican-born ROH World Champion in the main event. Earlier in the evening, The Allure’s Angelina Love won the Women of Honor World Title from Kelly Klein.
The match between RUSH and Taven was intense and hard-hitting right from the opening bell. Taven hit his Climax finisher, but RUSH kicked out at the very last second. Taven then landed three Just the Tip knee strikes, but RUSH again refused to stay down.
Taven started to climb the ropes, but RUSH shoved him jaw-first into the ring post. RUSH yanked Taven backwards, leaving Taven trapped upside down in the corner. RUSH hit Bull’s Horns two times in a row and pinned Taven.
RUSH becomes the 26th man to hold the championship. Taven’s reign ended at 174 days.
After the match, while RUSH celebrated in the ring with his brother Dragon Lee, his father and his young son, Taven shook the new champion’s hand.
In the WOH World Title Match, The Allure’s Mandy Leon entered the ring to interfere when Love was in trouble, but Klein speared her and then began unloading punches on her. Love took advantage of the momentary distraction and hit Botox Injection for the win. Klein had kicked out of Botox Injection earlier in the match.
Love, who won six world titles prior to joining WOH in April, is the fourth woman to hold the WOH World Championship. Klein’s reign -- her second -- also ended at 174 days.
After the match, Love and Leon attempted to draw the Allure symbol on Klein’s forehead, but Maria Manic came out and thwarted them. Manic put Love in the Torture Rack before security intervened.
