Legendary professional wrestler Harley Race died on Thursday at the age of 76.
An announcement of the 8-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion's passing was made on his verified Twitter account.
"Today at 12:50, we lost the man that fought up until the very last of his existence," the account tweeted. "More information will be released soon, but just know that he loved pro-wrestling and the fans that loved him.
"Harley Race, we love you."
His cause of death has yet to be announced.
Several of Race's friends, fans and former opponents paid tribute to the late wrestling legend on social media.
Race was one of the National Wrestling Alliance's biggest stars during the 1970s and early 1980s, defeating the likes of Dory Funk Jr., Giant Baba, Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship during his eight title reigns.
He also competed for several other major promotions during his career, including WWE from 1986-1989, where he won the 1986 King of the Ring tournament and earned the moniker "King Harley Race" and WCW, where he became the inaugural United States champion in 1975.
Race was also inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996, the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004 and the National Wrestling Alliance Hall of Fame in 2005.
