The suspect in the murder of two sisters in Indiana was found dead in an apparent suicide, officials said.
Darrel Jackson, 29, allegedly killed his estranged wife and her sister Friday before fleeing his family’s home to fatally shoot himself, the Indy Star reported.
Jackson was wanted for questioning in the slayings of wife Mallory Jackson, 27, and her sister Meredith Opel, 20.
Indianapolis Police Sgt. Chris Wilburn said the sisters were found Friday evening with trauma to their bodies at an Indianapolis home.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the sisters’ cause of death, according to police.
Police said that Jackson killed both women and then drove nearly 400 miles to his family’s house in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
He parked in the back of home and sent his dad a text message saying “he could not take it no longer,” according to the Indy Star.
His father and brother reportedly found him dead in the front seat from a gunshot wound to the head.
Funeral services for the women are scheduled for Friday.
Mallory Jackson, the elder sister, was remembered in her obituary as a devoted mom to her daughter.
“Mallory will be fondly-remembered as an honest and hard-working person who was fiercely loyal to those she loved and those who loved her,” her obituary stated. ” She was a beautiful lady who simply adored being the best mom she could be to her daughter.”
Her 20-year-old sister was a junior at the University of Southern Indiana at the time of her death.
“She was a free spirit, joyful, adventurous, loyal, goal oriented, and inspiring,” the obituary said.
