Nikki Bella and John Cena have decided to break up for good, three and a half months after they ended their engagement.
"After I called off the engagement, we tried to work on our relationship to get back to where it was, and in order to move forward with our wedding. After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways,” Bella, 34, told People in a statement on Monday night. “I had a beautiful and loving six-year relationship with a wonderful man. I have the utmost respect for John, but I know this is what’s best for me.”
The couple famously called off their engagement in April just weeks before they were set to tie the knot.
Since the split, Cena, 41, has made several extremely public efforts to win Bella back, including a heartfelt “Today” show appeal.
Bella previously revealed that she and Cena clashed over whether to have children, an argument that grew more frequent after her twin sister, fellow WWE star Brie, had daughter Birdie.
Cena had long been adamant about never wanting to be a father, as well as about never getting married again after divorcing first wife Elizabeth Huberdeau in 2012.
Cena hasn’t officially commented on the split, but tweeted Monday night, “If you can learn something from your experiences, good and bad, you will live with little to no regret.”
