Josip Nikolai Peruzović, better known to wrestling fans as Nikolai Volkoff, has died aged 70. The WWE Hall of Famer was a fixture in the world of wrestling for over 50 years, and passed away this morning. Volkoff was released from hospital last week in Maryland after being hospitalised for dehydration according to PWInsider.com. Born in Yugoslavia, Volkoff emigrated to Canada in 1967 after an amateur wrestling tournament in Vienna. He soon tried his hand at professional wrestling, and was trained by the legendary Stu Hart as his dungeon in Calgary. Most associated for his time with WWE, Volkoff made his debut with the company in 1968 when it was still known as the World Wide Wrestling Federation, and wrestled his last match for them in 1995. Volkoff portrayed characters from all over Europe and Asia during his career, and as WWE broke through into the mainstream in the 1980s, his pro-Russian gimmick attracted much attention.
