Domestic violence is a serious issue, not just in
the United States, but everywhere. The United
Nations defines violence against women as "any
act of gender-based violence that results in, or is
likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm
or suffering to women, including threats of such
acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty,
whether occurring in public or in private life."
Intimate partner or even sexual violence has
serious short and long-term effects on people.
These can include health problems for the victim
and possibly, their children.
So when Ronda Rousey called out Floyd
Mayweather Jr., following her win for "Best
Fighter" at the ESPYs, we saluted her. For those
who don't know, Mayweather has a long history
of domestic violence. Since 2002, he has been
accused of violence against women. However, he
has pleaded guilty in two of those incidents and
in another, he was convicted, only to have the
charges dismissed a few years later. The most
recent incident came about when he hit his ex-
girlfriend in front of their two children in 2010.
This resulted in a 90-day prison sentence.
When Rousey won 'BEST FIGHTER" at Wednesday night's ESPY Awards, she said: " I wonder how Floyd ( Mayweather) feels being beat by a woman", ESPN reports. Well said, Rousey. :) Hey, Mayweather, you'd better clean up your act, else.... ;)
