  Russian President Vladimir Putin has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, the Russian state news agency TASS reported Thursday. Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the nomination did not come from the Kremlin. According to TASS, a group of Russian public figures led by writer Sergey Komkov submitted the nomination, which was sent to Oslo on September 10.  "If this decision is made" — to award Putin the prize — "great, if not, it's no problem as well," Peskov said.

Iran has executed national champion wrestler Navid Afkari, who was found guilty of killing a man during anti-government protests in 2018.  There had been an international outcry over Afkari's death sentence, which was carried out on Saturday morning "at the insistence of the parents and the family of the victim," according to the justice department in southern Fars province.  Afkari, 27, had been convicted of stabbing Hassan Turkman, a water company security guard, along with other charges. Iran's Supreme Court rejected a review of the case in late August. His brothers Vahid and Habib were sentenced to 54 and 27 years in prison in the same case, according to human rights activists in Iran. Afkari, a Greco-Roman wrestler, had said he was tortured into making a false confession, according to his family and activists, while his lawyer said there was no proof of his guilt. US President Donald Trump was nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in reaching the agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Fox News reported on Wednesday morning. Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian parliament and head of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, submitted the nomination. “It is for his contribution for peace between Israel and the UAE,” Tybring-Gjedde, a member of parliament for the right-wing Progress Party, told Reuters. “It is a unique deal.” In addition to the Israel-UAE deal, the nomination letter to the Nobel Committee cited Trump’s “key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties... such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and the conflict between North and South Korea.”

Many persons are feared dead while scores more are left terribly injured following an accident of a diesel truck that lost control and rammed into a commercial area in Oloko Street, Ikare Akoko, Ondo State. According to eyewitnesses report , the accident occurred around 4:30pm on Saturday. And that the truck driver lost control and rammed into shops within the area. Chadwick Boseman died Friday at the age of 43, according to the Associated Press. A 19-year-old woman and her 18-year-old boyfriend are set to be charged over her death in early April in a flat in l’Alcúdia de Crespins, some 50 kilometres inland from the Costa Blanca resort of Gandia. The woman’s mother, named as Anna.T, was a Bulgarian national who lived in the area for 20 years. She suffered stab wounds and was then dumped in the bathroom. Her daughter continued to lived in the flat as if nothing had happened and told neighbours that her mother had gone on a trip. Residents said there was a vile stench wafting around parts of the apartment block, but did not suspect that the foul odour was oozing out of a decomposing body. The medical examiner could not determine the exact time the woman died due to the mummified condition of the corpse.

A missing Texas mother of two was found dead in Mexico last week. All of her teeth had been removed, leading authorities to believe she may have been tortured. Lizbeth Flores, 23, left her home in Brownsville, Texas, on August 9 to visit her boyfriend in the Mexican border city of Matamoros, her mother, María Rubio, told Telemundo 40 McAllen. She crossed the U.S.-Mexico border through the Brownsville Veterans Port of Entry, according to the station. When Flores didn't return home, her mother reported her missing to the Brownsville Police Department the next day. Mexican authorities found Flores’ body within the Matamoros city limits on August 11. Her body showed signs that she had been tortured, as it was covered in bruises and her teeth and part of her scalp appeared to have been forcefully removed, KRGV reported. She appeared to have died from blunt force trauma to the head, consistent with a large rock found at the scene, authorities in the Mexican State of Tamaulipas told KRGV.

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the escape of a suspected serial killer, Sunday Shodipe, connection with ritual killings of people at the Akinyele area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, made this known on Sunday in a statement by Public Relations Officer of the command, Olugbenga Fadeyi. The statement reads, "The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, wishes to state that the prime suspect in the serial killings at Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya Ibadan, one Sunday Shodipe ‘m’ 19 years, who was arrested and paraded along with two others on 17th July, 2020 and later charged to court but remanded in police custody escaped from lawful custody on 11/08/2020. Sexual assault survivor and activist was co-subject of award-winning film. Netflix star Daisy Coleman has died by suicide, aged 23. Documentary subject Coleman appeared in 2016 film Audrie & Daisy. Her body was found after her mother, Melinda, urged police to undertake a welfare check. Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, Coleman’s mother, Melinda, said, “She was my best friend and amazing daughter. “I think she had to make make it seem like I could live without her. I can’t. Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday took extraordinary action against President Trump for spreading coronavirus misinformation after his official and campaign accounts broke their rules, respectively. Facebook removed from Trump’s official account the post of a video clip from a Fox News interview in which he said children are “almost immune” from covid-19. Twitter required his Team Trump campaign account to delete a tweet with the same video, blocking it from tweeting in the interim.

A 300-level student of European Studies of the University of Ibadan (UI), Gbadebo Richard, was crushed to death in a soap making machine at a factory owned by Henkel Nigeria Limited, makers of WAW detergent and bar soap. The incident was said to have occurred on Monday evening at the factory located in the Oluyole axis of Ibadan, Oyo State. Twenty-year-old Richard, who was on night shift, was said to have fallen into one of the machines in the factory.
